Nancy Carlson

I am intrigued with how layers of pigment, ink and water can connect with memories of a time and place from the past. Specifically, memories of my mission trips to Nicaragua or to our cabin up north.

As with the journey of life, how the process of painting will go and where it will lead is unknown. Excitement, frustration, joy, and mystery exist on both journeys. By this, I mean that a relationship with paint, water and ink, or people of another culture, or nature, or community can be seen with a deeper sense of connection and clarity.

I hope these images stir within not only the obvious but also deeper layers of ideas and emotions. Bright colors, dark lines, and varied textures illuminate the world both around and within us.
